Emily Carter

Founder & Lead Dog Care Writer · SheWoof

I’m a certified dog behavior consultant, lifelong dog owner, and the founder of SheWoof. For over eight years, I’ve helped thousands of dog owners build confident, loving relationships with their dogs — through clear, vet-informed guidance that actually works in real life.

Who Is Emily Carter?

Emily Carter is a certified dog behavior consultant, professional dog care writer, and the founder of SheWoof.com. With over 8 years of experience writing vet-informed dog care content, Emily specializes in puppy care, dog training, grooming, nutrition, and breed-specific health guidance for everyday dog owners.

My Story

Why I Started SheWoof

It started with a scruffy, anxious rescue beagle named Biscuit. When I brought him home eight years ago, I was overwhelmed — every article I found gave contradictory advice, most of it clearly written by people who’d never actually lived with a difficult dog. I learned the hard way. A lot of trial. A lot of error. And eventually, a lot of joy.

That experience taught me something important: dog owners don’t need more generic content. They need specific, honest, practical guidance tailored to their actual dog — their breed, their age, their personality. So I went back to school, earned my certification in dog behavior consulting, and started writing the guides I wish I’d had.

“Every dog deserves an owner who understands them. Every owner deserves clear, honest guidance — without the jargon, without the fluff.”

— Emily Carter, Founder of SheWoof

Today, SheWoof reaches thousands of dog owners every month. We cover everything from your puppy’s first night home to managing a senior dog’s changing health needs. Every guide I write is grounded in the same thing: real experience, vet-reviewed research, and deep respect for the bond between a dog and the person who loves them.

I currently share my home in Vermont with two dogs — Biscuit (still going strong at 9) and a chaotic but loveable standard poodle named Fig. They keep me humble, busy, and endlessly inspired.

My Journey

From Rescue Dog Owner to SheWoof Founder

The path that turned personal dog ownership struggles into a trusted resource for thousands of dog families worldwide.

2016 — The Beginning

Adopted Biscuit, My First Rescue Dog

A scruffy beagle with severe anxiety changed everything. The lack of clear, honest guidance for rescue dog owners sparked my mission: create the resource I desperately needed but couldn’t find.

2017 — Education

Certified in Dog Behavior Consulting (IAABC)

Pursued formal education in animal behavior, earning my certification through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. This foundation shaped every guide I’ve written since.

2018 — First Words

Started Writing Dog Care Content Professionally

Began contributing vet-informed dog care content to pet publications, rescue organizations, and breed-specific communities. Built a reputation for clear, practical, non-jargon writing that owners actually use.

2020 — SheWoof Launches

Founded SheWoof.com

Launched SheWoof as a dedicated dog care and puppy guide platform — built around the belief that great dog care knowledge should be accessible, honest, and free. The site grew to thousands of readers within the first year.

2022 — Growing the Pack

Launched Vet-Review Program & Breed Guide Library

Partnered with licensed veterinarians to review all health content, and expanded SheWoof’s breed guide library to cover 80+ breeds with in-depth, specific care guidance. Fig the standard poodle also joined the household.

2024–Present

500+ Guides & Growing

SheWoof now hosts over 500 dog care guides spanning puppy development, grooming, training, nutrition, behavior, health, and senior dog care — helping thousands of dog owners every month make more confident, loving decisions.

How I Work

My Editorial Philosophy

Three core principles guide every guide, every word, and every recommendation I publish on SheWoof.

🔬

Research First, Always

Every guide I write starts with veterinary literature, breed organization standards, and animal behaviorism research. I verify claims with licensed vets before publishing. If I can’t back it up, I don’t write it.

🗣️

Write for Real Owners, Not Experts

Dog owners don’t need a veterinary textbook. They need guidance they can understand and act on today. I translate complex science into plain language without sacrificing accuracy — that’s the SheWoof standard.

🐾

Breed-Specific Over Generic

Generic dog advice is often useless for specific breeds. A Husky’s coat needs, a Bulldog’s breathing limits, and a Border Collie’s mental demands are worlds apart. I build guides that reflect the real dog in front of you.

Trust & Expertise

Why You Can Trust SheWoof

Trustworthy dog care content doesn’t happen by accident. Here’s exactly how SheWoof earns and maintains that trust.

Lived Experience with Real Dogs

Emily has personally owned and cared for dogs for over a decade — including a rescue beagle with behavioral challenges and a high-energy standard poodle. This real-world experience grounds every guide she writes.

Regular Content Updates

Dog care research evolves. Emily reviews and updates published guides whenever significant new research, veterinary guidance, or best practices emerge. Every article displays its last-updated date.

Clear Editorial Standards

Driven by Genuine Love for Dogs

SheWoof exists because Emily genuinely cares about the wellbeing of dogs and the confidence of their owners. This isn’t content marketing — it’s a mission. That sincerity shows in every guide published.
